3 great hobbies that can relax you
The article I’m writing this week will be a little less in-depth. Less technical and more practical and fun. I’ll be talking about hobbies that can help you relax. I wrote an article a while ago that touched on some things to enhance your social life during COVID. There are options, especially as restrictions may soon start to lift. Lets face it though, you won’t be on the phone or video call with friends all day. Once your work is done, there’s room for a lot of things given the internet. Even so, it might leave you bored or anxious. If you’re feeling the latter, then it might be best…

3 Ways Some Foods Can Affect Your Anxiety & Depression
1. Why sugar is bad for depression/anxiety In one of the earlier articles I mentioned how certain diets, such as a Mediterranean diet. Judging from the sources I’ve seen diets like this are objectively good for your mental health. There are of course comfort foods which can make one feel better. For example, eating sugary foods after a bad day will make you feel better. The only catch is, the fact that it is very temporary. When we eat things like sugar, this almost immediately activates our dopamine receptors, making us feel good. This goes out the window when sugar reaches your gastrointestinal tract. It then tells your brain that…

Aromatherapy (and Anxiety) Explained in 3 Great Steps
A few days ago I was inspired by a story I heard about an old Japanese couple, Mr. and Mrs. Kuroki. In the later parts of Mrs. Kuroki’s life, she gradually became blind as a side-effect of her diabetes. Due to her blindness Mrs. Kuroki became depressed, something that Mr. Kuroki quickly noticed. Mr. Kuroki worked to solve this problem by planting thousands of flowers on their property, so she could enjoy one of her remaining senses. This worked out well for both of them, after the flowers bloomed Mrs. Kuroki couldn’t stop smiling, which was all her husband wanted. This reminded me of how helpful aromatherapy can really be.…

Depression is becoming more common recently. Regardless of the pandemic many of us see intense stress regularly. As one could guess, stress can lead to depression. As I noted in my first article here, there are plenty of ways to prevent depression and by extension, stress. One way to reduce stress is through pets, in most cases this means dogs. While not everyone is a dog person, it’s not easy to find someone who isn’t. This is for good reason, dogs give us companionship with few strings attached. You scratch their back, they’ll scratch yours ten times over. While not everyone has a dog, many universities and workplaces offer dog…

Black Women: Do You ALWAYS Date Down When Dating Black Men? Tell us in this 5-7 minute survey
I started this survey because there was a Facebook debate stating how black women usually date white men when they become successful. This was heatedly debated among black women and black men in the comment section of the post. I decided that battling over opinions does not work. The only way to truly find the answer is by surveying black women and finding out if they are typically dating down in their relationships.
